Everyone has a story, I invite you to read mine here.
The Cooking Contractor
My early childhood was very transient and unstable. I can remember moving often, and some very shoddy rental places where we lived. My mom did the best she could at that time. I remember one day when we were out in the car and she was learning to drive, she parked outside of a new house being built. I must have been only 7 or 8 years old. A carpenter came out of the house to get something in his van and I remember clearly being mesmerized by all the fantastic tools hanging off of his belt. He was building this beautiful house that was so unlike where we lived. It made a lasting impact on that small child that was me. I now know why my passion is residential construction. It actually represents the things I lacked most at that time; namely structure, stability, and a beautiful living space. I am so passionate about what I do that I obsess about doing the very best work, so no one else has to put up with a 2nd or 3rd rate home.
I’ve recently read Malcom Gladwell’s excellent book ‘The Tipping point’, and as I was reading, he described ‘me’ perfectly. It turns out I am a ‘maven’, and he defines a ‘maven‘ as an: “information specialist”, and “almost pathologically helpful”. “A Maven is someone who wants to solve other people’s problems, generally by solving his own”. For most of my life I have been actively involved in all phases of residential construction and my peers refer to me as a ‘Master Carpenter‘. Although I continue to enjoy this work, I am increasingly leaning towards Kitchen and Bathroom renovations. The reason is I am absolutely passionate about cooking, and get excited about the kitchens that I design and build. As a cook, I bring valuable insights about the workflow in a kitchen, and can relate strongly with you and your kitchen needs.
